The Trump administration has officially axed the Global Engagement Center (GEC)—an office Rubio claims was weaponized to muzzle free speech, and calls the “censorship-industrial complex."
Rubio made it clear: “GEC is dead. It will not return.”
The center, originally built to fight terrorist propaganda, morphed under Obama into a broader “disinformation” watchdog, which just meant targeting conservative voices.
Rubio also torched groups like NewsGuard and the Global Disinformation Index (GDI), which took State Department dollars and then flagged conservative media as “risky”—hitting them where it hurts: ad revenue.
NewsGuard’s ties to longtime Democrat operatives didn’t exactly ease concerns— Elon called them a “scam.”
With the GEC gone and funding dried up, Rubio says the administration is making good on its promise to “liberate American speech.”
