With superior sartorial splendor, SECDEF Austin met Ukraine’s war hero President Zelenskyy at Shangri-la. I hope they discussed the following key issues:
what would a Ukraine victory look like—will Crimea be the nonnegotiable condition for the endgame and settlement? Why and how Ukraine should disabuse of any illusion of perfidious China playing any positive role in wartime good-faith mediation and post-bellum reconstruction for Ukraine; when it will be for the next ground or air campaign that will DECISIVELY show Ukraine’s potential to win the war; how to stem Ukraine’s war dodgers problem and maintain a viable fighting personnel capable of handling sophisticated high-end U.S. toys of war; how the U.S. and Ukraine could encourage, even cajole, the strategically autonomous, Westphalia Peace Prize winner French President Macron to lead and revitalize the “brain dead” NATO in Europe and work with, not against, the U.S., in gathering collective European support for the war-efforts, so that the U.S. could focus on its far more formidable adversary in Asia, while recognizing a victory for Ukraine is intrinsically related to defeating the revanchist CCP in Asia and beyond.
