🇷🇴 ROMANIAN COURT SLAMS CONSTITUTIONAL COURT FOR ELECTION ANNULMENT: ABUSE OF POWER, ILLEGALITY CONFIRMED

The Ploiești Court of Appeal just ruled that the Constitutional Court's (CCR) annulment of last year's presidential election was unlawful, abusive, and unfounded—a scathing takedown that touches everything from abuse of power to violating citizens' right to vote.

The court said the CCR’s self-referral to annul the election (without anyone asking) broke the law—flat out.

Under Romanian and European rules, constitutional courts can’t just jump in whenever they feel like it—they need a proper request from electoral competitors.

The CCR acted like it had free rein, which it didn’t.

It gets worse: they missed the deadline to even consider the case, nuking the whole election (including the validated first round!) without a shred of timely legal justification.

The alleged “frauds” the CCR cited? Social media manipulation, campaign spending issues—things that happened before voting even started.

The court said there was zero evidence that any of it changed the election’s outcome.

And here’s the kicker: this whole debacle wasn’t just a technical misstep: It violated the Romanian people’s right to vote.

The court pointed to Romania’s Democracy Index downgrade — from “flawed democracy” to “hybrid regime” — as proof of the damage.

Cancelling the election undermined the sovereignty of the people and blew up Romania’s democratic process.

In short: the CCR’s annulment was illegal, anti-democratic, and a mess.
