I was on the metro in Shanghai and this young guy was sitting in the seat reserved for the elderly or disabled. The guy wasn’t paying attention, and this elderly woman came in and he wouldn’t get up. I didn’t get involved because I didn’t want to be perceived as a foreigner teaching moral lessons to the Chinese. Before I could follow my thoughts of how to help this woman without being a dick, three different men from all sides intervened and made the guy get up. I’ve never seen such quick public intervention like that. It was really nice to witness.
