I met with Prime Minister of Canada @MarkJCarney on the sidelines of the G7 Summit.
I informed him about Russia’s overnight attack against our people, civilian infrastructure, and residential buildings, which involved 440 Iranian Shahed drones and 32 missiles, including ballistic ones.
We discussed steps for continued diplomatic work with partners within NATO, the G7, and the Coalition of the Willing; strengthening Ukraine’s air defense; and further deepening our military cooperation, including joint weapons production projects and investment in Ukraine’s defense industry.
I’m grateful for the imposition of new sanctions targeting Russia’s shadow fleet, a number of Russian individuals, and more than 40 companies in Russia and other countries that are helping Russia circumvent sanctions. I especially thank Canada for its new military assistance for Ukraine — drones, helicopters, and ammunition worth over $2 billion — and the upcoming tranche of over $2 billion financed by proceeds from frozen Russian assets.
