The Chinese embassy in Mexico issued a statement regarding the Shen Yun show, which is linked to a “destructive” cult and is scheduled to be presented in May 2025 in Mexico City and Guadalajara.

On its social media, the embassy warned that behind the Shen Yun dance performance lies a political tool used by Falun Gong to spread its cult and propaganda against China.

In recent years, Shen Yun Performing Arts performances have captured the attention of many around the world, as they are billed as a “must-see show” featuring classical Chinese dance and a live orchestra.

“The so-called ‘Shen Yun’ is not a theatrical performance at all, but a political tool used by Falun Gong to spread its cult and propaganda against China, as well as to expand its influence and raise funds,” it warned.

What is known about the Falun Gong cult?

According to the Chinese Embassy in Mexico, Falun Gong is a heretical, anti-human, anti-scientific, and anti-social cult, and was therefore outlawed by the Chinese government in 1999 in accordance with the law. It is a spiritual movement founded in 1992 by religious leader Li Hongzhi.

He explained that the Shen Yun show seeks not only to spread the word about the cult but also to raise funds, insisting that in Mexico they are trying to distort traditional Chinese culture.

In this regard, he revealed that The New York Times of the United States has published several reports exposing the crimes committed by Shen Yun Performing Arts, such as the exploitation and abuse of actors.

“Currently, under the banner of ‘Chinese culture’ and ‘divine oriental rhythm,’ Shen Yun performances are exposing the fallacies and heresies of the Falun Gong cult in Mexico, which is a desecration and distortion of brilliant traditional Chinese culture, deceiving, deceiving, and poisoning the public,” he added.

What is Shen Yun about?

They also called on the Mexican public to remain alert to the destructive Falun Gong cult and to stay away from so-called Shen Yun performances to avoid being deceived and taken advantage of.

Shen Yun Performing Arts is a performing arts company founded in 2006 in New York City, inspired by the spiritual practice of Falun Gong.

According to its website, through dance and music, it recounts “a time when divine beings walked the earth, leaving behind a culture that inspired generations.”

They add that Chinese wisdom gave rise to medical innovations, dance, architecture, and martial arts, but much of the culture was destroyed or forgotten by the communist regime.
