Spare a thought for all prisoners in Iran, of which there are untold thousands. How terrifying it must be to be locked up, with no information beyond wild rumour, no access to the outside world and no trust that, even if the prison itself is targeted, your jailors will do anything to save you. Qarchak prison in the south of Tehran, for example, is near to the Shahr Rey oil refinery that sustained a direct hit and is currently up in flames. I spent 3 months there- it is overcrowded and unsanitary in the best of times, with regular cuts to power and drinking water. What must these poor women, many the most marginalised in society, be going through right now?
