However, I know this will be extremely difficult because Lai has repeatedly emphasized that he doesn't want to leave Hong Kong. He smuggled himself into Hong Kong empty-handed; Hong Kong gave him a new life, and he wants to share the suffering with the people of Hong Kong. If Trump's pleas can change Lai's fate, those who criticize Trump for not caring about the lives of Hong Kong people will have no further rhetoric.
