In this case, a video of a foreign person speaking a language most viewers do not understand was reposted with a completely unrelated political caption. Because viewers cannot verify the speech themselves and must rely on subtitles or the poster’s framing, many assume the message is genuine.

What the person actually said is wildly different from the claim. A normal Japanese idol from Fukuoka was falsely presented as making a declaration in support of Okinawan independence.

This is how misinformation works: when language barriers exist, context can be rewritten, intent can be fabricated, and an ordinary clip can be turned into propaganda.
