Invoking Canada’s Foreign Interference & Security of Information Act to justify what happened to Jimmy Lai is a false equivalence—unless the intent is to serve Beijing’s propaganda.

Canada prosecutes covert and deceptive foreign interference within a system defined by judicial independence, due process, transparency, and Charter protections.

Jimmy Lai was not accused of secret foreign interference. He was targeted for peaceful political expression, independent journalism, and opposition to authoritarian rule. His prosecution rests on a sweeping National Security Law imposed by Beijing—retroactive, vague, and explicitly designed to criminalize dissent. Comparing that to Canadian law enforcement strips away context, intent, and reality.

This argument does not defend the rule of law; it launders repression through selective legalism. It normalizes authoritarian abuse by pretending all laws, all courts, and all systems are morally equivalent. They are not.

Canada’s laws exist to protect democracy. Hong Kong’s current legal apparatus is being used to extinguish it.

If @yuenpauwoo is serious about democratic values, he must stop weaponizing Canadian law to excuse political persecution abroad—and stop acting as a volunteer propagandist for the CCP from the Canadian public office.
