A Melbourne woman is calling for a law change which will allow women to carry pepper spray for self-protection amid ongoing violence against women.
Campaign organiser Jayde Howard has used her social media following to kickstart a petition that now has nearly 9,000 signatures.
Pepper spray, also sometimes called OC spray, is classified as a prohibited weapon across the country excluding Western Australia where it can be carried and used for self-defence.
“The only form of protection we have as women in Australia is to call the police, but for many it’s always too late,” the petition reads.
