As an @AustralianLabor member I am appalled with Keating’s views, which are anathema to Labor tradition:
- Progressives support the right of self-determination and liberty. His views don’t. Instead he is siding with an imperialist with colonial pretensions (as an aside if Tasmania wants to be independent our democratic values should ensure that such a wish be respected - after all we never rattled sabres over such noises from West Australians over decades).
- From Curtin’s fight against the Japanese to sympathy for anti-Franco forces in Spain, Labor has long and proud tradition of understanding that progressive values need to be defended, preferably peacefully but with arms if necessary. Keating’s transactional view on Taiwan (he’s wrong even on a transactional basis but that’s for another time) is a disgrace to the Labor movement.
@LabAgainstWar, you should be ashamed of calling yourself Labor after supporting imperialism and standing against principles of self-determination and liberty.
