In her final walk into a Texas veterinarian's office before being euthanized, 16-year-old Bretagne, the last known 9/11 search and rescue dog, is saluted by a row of firefighters.
Ground Zero was the first assignment for her and her owner and trainer, Denise Corliss, and they worked there for 10 days. She later participated in rescue efforts after Hurricanes Rita, Katrina and Ivan. After her retirement, she continued her community service as a reading dog at a local elementary school.
