Today, I had the honor of meeting former Taiwanese President @iingwen, an inspiring leader whose dedication to her country has left a lasting impact. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Taiwan stepped up as a true partner to the EU, providing invaluable assistance when it was needed most.
Throughout her tenure, she maintained a cool head despite threats from Beijing, showcasing her astute political acumen. This serves as a reminder that the EU must do everything in its power to prevent a military conflict in the region.
Now in retirement since May, her first overseas visit brings her to Europe, underscoring the close relationship between Taiwan and our continent. It was especially meaningful to reconnect after first meeting her five years ago in Taiwan.
The EU will continue to support #Taiwan and further strengthen our friendship-based partnership. Together, we can face the challenges ahead and promote shared values of democracy and freedom.
