German parliament member and foreign policy expert Roderich Kiesewetter (@RKiesewetter) made the following statement regarding the Russian incursion into NATO airspace, and I fully agree:
„Given the weak response so far in reference to the Russian aggression against us, it should come as no surprise when Russia continues to attack and tests our reaction.
How about finally turning the observation missions like Baltic Air Policing and Eastern Sentry/Baltic Sentry into defense missions: Violations will be robustly countered. Russia probing would end, because they will be consistently shot down, just as Türkiye did in 2015 in response to a violation by Russia!
After that, there were no more Russian airspace violations, because Russia understands strength and consistency. Weakness and appeasement, however, lead to more violations, and bolder testing by Russia. Russia escalates so that we deescalate, and we give Russia further strength as well as invite further provocations.“
