Xiaomi shares plunged nearly 9% after a fatal crash involving its SU7 electric car, Bloomberg reports

According to the outlet, a 31-year-old driver in China collided with another vehicle, crossed into the opposite lane, and the car caught fire. Witnesses tried to pull the man out, but the doors were locked after the power shut off — the driver died at the scene.

Police said he may have been intoxicated. However, online discussions have already erupted over possible issues with the SU7’s door lock system — a flagship model on which Xiaomi had pinned major hopes for its entry into the automotive industry.
