The “person of interest” detained by law enforcement in connection with yesterday’s shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, has been identified as Benjamin Erickson, 24, who previously served in the U.S. Army as a decorated infantryman in a position supporting funeral details at Arlington National Cemetery. According to a spokesman for the Army who spoke to CNN, Erickson had no prior deployments and separated last year at the rank of Specialist. Erickson appears to have had no previously known criminal history and had been taking online classes with a focus on psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, before transferring earlier this year to Brown.
