Who are the Lu Peis?

In Taiwan, there are spouses from mainland married to Taiwanese called Lu Pei (陆配)。 Recently in the news some of the Lu Pei are found to spread communist propaganda and incite war on social media platform such as Facebook, Youtube and TikTok.

Some of them were deported from Taiwan to China after being reported for causing social unrest as they were parcipating in activities deemed to undermine Taiwan’s constitutional order or democratic system

For those who could not make a living or unrelated to the party, some of them were reduce to doing livestream. Due to their sensitive status, they often get censored or are stopped by police as were the case here.

One deported mainland spouse called the mainland an abyss, a telling reflection of her own cognitive and existential state. When they are in Taiwan however, they are as “Patriotic” as wumaos can be.
