Interesting take from Chinese dissident @wangdan1989:
In the days following Zhang Youxia’s incident, the usual one to two hundred daily abusive, defamatory, and rumor-spreading wumao comments under my social media posts suddenly disappeared.
This was highly unusual. It suggested that shifts at the top of the Chinese leadership had left the external propaganda and state security apparatus temporarily disoriented, leading to a pause in coordinated wumao activity.
This morning, when I checked again, the familiar wumao talking points had returned, once again flooding the comment sections of my posts.
It appears that Xi Jinping has since managed to re-stabilize the situation.
