Japanese Police Bust Chinese Gold Smuggling Ring—
Chinese national company director Zhou Jianjun (46), Chen Zhenzuo (54), Guo Yizheng (41), Chen Qiren (45), and six others are suspected of smuggling approximately 49 kilograms of gold (market value over 40 million RMB) hidden inside life-sized dolls, transported from China to Japan, where it was seized by customs at Narita Airport.
Police say the ring first processed gold bars into cylinders in China, stuffed them into doll skeletons, and declared them as "mannequins" for shipment. The goods were delivered to an apartment in Arakawa Ward for pickup, after which Chinese members disassembled the dolls, extracted the gold bricks, and transported them back to the company. The gold bars were then melted down and recast into 1-kilogram ingots for sale on the Japanese market.
Here's the question—
What is the source of this batch of gold?
What channels were used to sell it within Japan?
Who are the ultimate buyers?
Is there any connection to the recent spate of gold robberies, thefts, and money laundering cases in Japan, Hong Kong, and other areas?
