However, rumors of Zhu Rongji’s was circulating in Chinese social media and it is similar in nature to Hu Jingtao’s death rumors last few weeks. What is going on in zhongnanhai?
Multiple Chinese influencers are again circulating claims that former Premier Zhu Rongji died in Beijing on August 12, 2026.
No official confirmation from Xinhua or any central state media has been issued.
This follows a similar wave of rumors in late July 2026 claiming that former General Secretary Hu Jintao, his wife Liu Yongqing, and their son Hu Haifeng all died of food poisoning.
That earlier claim was based on a forged Weibo screenshot attributed to media figure Qin Feng, who publicly stated her account had been impersonated and the post was fake. No official confirmation ever appeared for Hu either.
Both sets of rumors fit a recurring pattern: unverified death reports about high-level retired CCP leaders spread rapidly among Chinese influencers and overseas accounts, often during sensitive periods, then fade without state media acknowledgment.
Zhu Rongji was born in Changsha, Hunan, and is said to be a descendant of Zhu Pian, the eighteenth son of Ming Emperor Taizu Zhu Yuanzhang and Prince Minzhuang.
He lost both parents at a young age. He later served as Shanghai mayor, central bank governor, vice premier, and Premier of China (1998–2003).
Until verified by authoritative sources, both the Zhu Rongji and Hu Jintao claims remain unconfirmed reports circulating among Chinese online influencers.
