Over 100 American schools and universities across 30 states are quietly participating in a state-backed exchange program run by a group guided explicitly by Marxist-Leninist ideology and loyalty to the Chinese Communist Party.
According to a newly unsealed report from educational watchdog group Defending Education, Beijing’s Young Envoys Scholarship program has already sent thousands of American students on fully subsidized, curated trips to China.
The program claims to build mutual understanding. But national security experts warn it is an aggressive, soft-power campaign designed to shape how young Americans view an authoritarian state.
The initiative is run by the China Education Association for International Exchange, a government-aligned organization whose official charter commits to CCP leadership.
The trips heavily subsidize travel, hotel stays, and visa fees for American youth. In one instance, students were even taken on curated visits through Xinjiang—a region where global human rights groups have documented severe repression against Uyghur minorities.
U.S. House Select Committee on the CCP Chairman John Moolenaar warned that American students are being used as propaganda tools in a broader attempt to influence U.S. classrooms from the inside.
