Evergrande founder Xu Jiayin sentenced to life today.
He did not climb that high alone. Land is owned by the state. Local officials sold it. State banks funded it. He sat on the Party’s advisory body. The court now says he bribed his way into financial institutions.
Chinese comments under the court photo are not about his white hair. They are about the money:
“退钱。我们不要看他白发,我们要钱。”
Give the money back. We don’t want to look at his white hair. We want the money.
“2.4万亿窟窿,追回五百多亿。判决是他的结局,烂尾楼是我们的结局。”
2.4 trillion hole, a few hundred billion recovered. The verdict is his ending. The unfinished buildings are ours.
“他判无期,我们判无期还贷。”
He got life. We got a life sentence of mortgage payments.
The officials who sold the land, cleared the credit, and opened the door are not in the photo.
For them, is it prison — or 罚酒三杯?
The houses still were not delivered.
