You can still “see” the content. You just can’t open it.
After Dongchedi’s tests showed the brake pedal brackets snapping on three brand-new Maextro/Zunjie V800s (Huawei + JAC luxury MPV), the main video vanished from Douyin, Bilibili, Weibo, and even Dongchedi itself.
On HarmonyOS phones, users searching inside the Dongchedi app could still see the results. Click any Douyin-sourced video and you get: “功能陆续开放中,敬请期待” — “Functions are being gradually opened, please stay tuned.”
Same videos played fine on iPhone and other Android phones.
Both Huawei and Dongchedi customer service called it a HarmonyOS adaptation issue with Douyin content (it hit all Douyin-sourced videos, not just the brake test). Timing was perfect though.
Classic Chinese soft censorship: results appear so it doesn’t look fully blocked, but access is quietly cut. Plausible deniability included.
Huawei’s own phones, Huawei’s own car brand, basic brake failure under emergency stops. And the content gets the “you can look but you can’t touch” treatment.
This is how it works.
