A former abbot of Ragya Monastery in Tibet has reportedly been sentenced to five years in prison for possessing photos and teachings of the Dalai Lama and for leading long life prayers for His Holiness. Lobsang Tenpa was reportedly arrested, interrogated and tried in secret, with no clear information about the charges or access to a lawyer of his choice.

This is the CCP’s so called “religious freedom”: prayers treated as crimes, spiritual teachings seized as evidence, and Buddhist monks sent to prison for their faith. Beijing wants control over Tibetan Buddhism, but it cannot imprison the devotion of an entire people. The world must not stay silent.
