An old Italian man lived alone in New York. He wanted to plant tomatoes in his garden, but digging the hard soil was too much work for his frail body.

His only son, who used to help him, was in prison. So, the old man wrote a letter to his son describing his predicament:

"Dear Son, I am feeling very sad because it looks like I won’t be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to dig up the garden plot. I know if you were here, you would dig the plot for me like the old days. Love, Dad"
A few days later, he received a telegram from his son: "FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE DAD, DON'T DIG UP THE GARDEN! THAT'S WHERE I BURIED THE BODIES!"

At 6:00 AM the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived at the old man's house. They dug up the entire garden, turned over every inch of soil, but found no bodies at all. Confused and disappointed, they apologized to the old man and left.

That same evening, the old man received another short letter from his son:

"Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now, Dad. That was the best I could do under the circumstances."
