Another incredibly tragic incident has occurred in China.

According to the video, a delivery worker and a residential complex security guard got into a verbal argument that escalated into a fistfight, ultimately developing into an incident where the delivery worker allegedly strangled the security guard's neck, leading to his death.

Of course, violence that results in the loss of life can never be justified.

However, the background to this incident involves a recurring problem in China's urban areas: "conflicts between delivery workers and security guards."

In China, many residential complexes are gated communities, where delivery workers are demanded by their companies to "deliver to the customer's location within the time limit," while security guards are instructed by management to "not allow delivery workers or motorcycles into the complex."

If delivery is late, the delivery worker faces penalties like fines.

If rules aren't enforced, the security guard also faces penalties.

In other words, people who are by no means in a position of leisure are cornered by entirely different sets of rules, leading to a structure where they end up clashing with the person right in front of them.

In fact, conflicts between delivery workers and security guards are frequently reported in China, and some escalate into violent incidents.

On Chinese social media, this phenomenon is often described as "底层互害" (底层互害), meaning "mutual harm among the underclass (people at the bottom of society harming each other)."

But what we really need to think about is why two people who shouldn't have to fight end up being driven to this point.
