And his country is now under mounting economic pressure from the CCP over the decision.
Here’s what happened:
Three members of the Pacific Islands Forum have switched their diplomatic recognition from Taiwan to China in recent years.
Last year’s host of the Forum, the Solomon Islands, excluded Taiwan under pressure from the CCP.
This year, Palau restored Taiwan’s participation.
In retaliation, Whipps says China is “weaponizing” tourism against Palau by throttling the flow of Chinese tourists.
But he’s not backing down.
“Taiwan is a partner.”
