A public service announcement for every man whose girlfriend still thinks HDMI is a vitamin.
Girlfriend spots the new box on the shelf.
Girlfriend: “That’s a gaming console.”
Boyfriend: “That’s a router.”
Girlfriend: “It has lights. It has ports. It looks expensive. You hid a console.”
Boyfriend: “It’s a Wi-Fi 7 mesh node. It routes packets. It does not play Elden Ring.”
She posts the photo anyway.
Caption: “Boyfriend insists this is a router.”
The entire internet, including people who still use Internet Explorer, replies: “Babe. That’s a router.”
She does not take this well.
Twenty minutes later she updates:
“He already admitted it’s a gaming console.”
Attached: the living room after a Category 5 tantrum. Sofa on its back. TV face-down. Cushions ejected. One plant that will never recover. The “console” sitting in the wreckage, blinking its little status lights like it just watched a war crime and is trying not to get involved.
He did not admit it because he suddenly remembered the DualSense in the drawer.
He admitted it because the alternative was explaining QoS, NAT type, and why the antennas are not “controller slots” while she was already holding a floor lamp like a war hammer.
Moral of the story:
Sometimes the router is just a router.
Sometimes it’s cheaper to let her win the argument than to replace the coffee table.
And sometimes the bravest thing a man can say is:
“…fine. It’s a PlayStation. Please put the vase down.”
