On September 2, Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong pleaded guilty in the Hong Kong High Court to the charge of "conspiracy to collude with foreign or overseas forces to endanger national security."
The prosecution alleged that Joshua Wong and Nathan Law, who is in exile in the UK, along with others, sought foreign sanctions, blockades, and other measures against Hong Kong and China between July and November 2020.
This is the second national security case facing Joshua Wong. He is currently serving a sentence of 4 years and 8 months for the "pro-democracy primaries case," originally set to be released in January 2027, but now faces the possibility of additional prison time.
The offense of "conspiracy to collude with foreign or overseas forces to endanger national security" carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. The judge did not impose an immediate sentence that day, stating only that a sentencing decision would be made as soon as possible.
